The recent announcement helps parents who are looking for Montessori schools that allow children to learn via discovery. EYES Child Care allows freedom of movement within the classroom and children learn concepts through experimentation instead of direct instruction.

To allow teachers to focus on each child, the school’s mixed-age class maintains a student-teacher ratio of 8:1. The teacher guides the students through their chosen task to ensure that they are safe, but allows them to complete it by themselves.

The Montessori method that EYES Child Care practices was invented by Italian physician and educator, Dr. Maria Montessori. It is a child-centered method of education that allows children of different ages to choose what they want to learn in an environment that encourages independence.

The early childhood development center believes that children learn more and develop a thirst for knowledge when they are allowed to choose what they want to learn. In class, teachers prepare a range of age-appropriate activities for the children, and the students choose and complete an activity at their own pace.

EYES Child Care’s developmentally appropriate activities are centered on three main principles: observation, individual liberty, and preparation of the environment. The classrooms look like a workshop and playroom in one, with little nooks and spaces that enable children to concentrate and work without distractions.

The school’s mixed-age classrooms present a learning opportunity and foster independence and maturity. They encourage peer-to-peer learning and growth that cannot be achieved in a same-age classroom.
